La Taverne

Tabletop RPG

The tabletop RPG table built for the game master. The software keeps the score, you keep the story.

Coming soon to SteamWindows 10 and 11 · English, French, Spanish

For you, GM

Fewer clicks, more story

Running a game online often means spending the evening managing the tool. La Taverne takes on everything that can be computed, so you can keep your head in the story.

  • Combat that moves on its own

Initiative rolls itself, attacks take one click (to-hit, defence, damage, armour), conditions tick down, and the turn passes when the player is done. You stay in charge at all times.

  • Your system, not ours

Eight ready-to-play templates or a blank page: describe your attributes, rolls, gauges and conditions, and every sheet follows.

  • Dice nobody can argue with

Dice tumble in 3D across the map, the same throw for everyone. At the end of the session, every screen checks that nobody, not even you, chose a result.

  • Your table, at home

No account, no server to rent, no subscription. The table runs on your PC and your campaigns stay in your Documents.

A session

From the invite to the first roll

  1. You open the tavern

On your PC, you pick the campaign and tonight's scene.

  2. You send a link

A link and a password, through whatever channel you like. Nothing to set up on the router.

  3. Your players walk in

Their sheet is waiting. The game goes straight from one computer to another, end-to-end encrypted.

  4. The dice roll

You tell the story. La Taverne keeps track of points, turns and wounds.

The software

Everything around the table

A map you uncover together

A map you uncover together

Import your map, set the grid, and the scene is ready. The fog of war lifts on its own around the heroes as they explore: the GM no longer reveals the map square by square.

  • Several scenes per campaign, each with its map, grid and tokens.
  • Fog of war, walls that block movement, animated weather.
  • Freehand drawing for everyone, circle or square areas of effect, light auras.
  • Tokens with gauges, conditions and armour; hidden tokens are never sent to players.
Living character sheets

Living character sheets

The sheet opens when a player arrives. They fill it in following the GM's creation rules (points to spend or a dice roll), then seal it. From then on it runs itself: every value knows where its bonuses come from.

  • Click a skill to roll the right dice, with difficulty and advantage if the system has them.
  • Everything is computed from the saved sheet: nobody cheats on their score.
  • Gear with bonuses, items with charges (a potion, three sips), abilities with their cost.
  • Temporary bonuses, level-ups, points to spend, GM notes the player never sees.
Combat without the paperwork

Combat without the paperwork

Turn order sits at the top of the map, initiative rolls itself, and everyone knows whose turn it is. An attack takes one click: the software rolls to-hit against the target's defence, then damage, subtracts armour and updates the sheet.

  • An initiative banner you reorder by drag and drop, groups that act together.
  • Conditions that act every turn (poison, regeneration) and count down on their own.
  • “Wounded” and “Down” thresholds; enemy health can stay hidden from players.
  • Turns can pass on their own after an attack, with a timer the GM sets.

Your game, your rules

The GM describes their system in an editor: attributes, skills, gauges, roll recipes, conditions, abilities, items, rests, levels, free fields. Every sheet, token and bestiary entry follows.

classic d100 · d20 with point buy · investigation d100 · 2d6 narrative · d10 pools · Fudge dice · d6 pools · pulp with exploding dice · blank page

Dice nobody can rig

Dice roll in 3D across the map, on the same path for everyone. Before any roll, the table shows the seal of its secret seed; at the end of the session, every screen replays the draws and ticks each roll: nobody, not even the GM, could choose a result.

Roll with a click or a flick · Your dice colour and material · Free formulas (4d6kh3…) · Random tables · Secret GM rolls · Campaign statistics

in the works

La Taverne gets a new look

La Taverne is taking on the look of a late-medieval tavern under a starry vault: oak, wrought iron, initiative shields and corn-yellow dice. The screenshots above show the software as it is today; here is a mock-up of the interface we are preparing.

playing remotely

Simple for players, safe for the table

  • Nothing to set up on your router

La Taverne finds its own way between the GM's PC and the player's. If a network is too closed, the game goes through a relay.

  • End-to-end encrypted

The link goes straight from the player to the GM's table. The relay, when used, passes traffic along without being able to read it.

  • Everyone sees what they should

Hidden tokens, fog, notes and GM-only elements are never sent to players.

questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a subscription or a server?

No. The GM opens the table on their own PC and players connect to it directly. No account, no subscription.

Do my players need to buy La Taverne?

Yes, each player needs their own copy. Steam checks the purchase when they join the table.

Which tabletop RPG does it support?

The one you describe. Eight templates are ready (d100, d20, 2d6, dice pools, Fudge dice…), and the blank page lets you rebuild your own system: attributes, skills, gauges, roll recipes, conditions.

Do I need to open ports on my router?

No. La Taverne connects the computers without any setup. Opening your router is still possible if you prefer.

Does it run on Mac or Linux?

La Taverne is Windows software (10 or 11, 64-bit). At home, on the same network, tablets and other devices can join the table from a browser.

Where are my campaigns stored?

On the GM's computer, in Documents\La Taverne, with automatic backups you restore in one click. Nothing is sent to Milhoc Studio.
